These virtual sessions are designed for families who have a child with a disabilities who identify as African American, Black, or Multiracial.
Day 1: Transition 101
“Transition” can have many meanings for your child, depending on his/her age and the services, such as medical or special education services.
If you have a child with disabilities 12 years old and up and wonder “what’s next!” for transition, we’ll answer your questions. You’ll receive resources to help your child transition to high school…and beyond!
Day 2: Overview of Transition Planning
Parents of adolescents and youth with disabilities report that they need resources to help plan for transition to adulthood.
In this session, we’ll help parents:
- Understand the transition planning process for Special Education, beginning at age 14-16 years old.
- Learn strategies to support effective transition planning for youth with IEPs.
- Get resources and tools to help your youth transition from middle school to high school to post-secondary life.
